Antique China Fairing Ornament "Three o'clock in the morning." Circa 1890's

If you visited a fair during the mid nineteenth century and into the early twentieth century you would have probably come home the proud owner of a little hand painted china figure now referred to as a ‘Fairing’. They were given away as prizes at the fairground (hence the name) and were mostly about 3.5in long, 2.5in deep and 3in tall, mounted on a rectangular base with a caption.

This one has the caption "Three o'clock in the morning." It bears the stamp 'Made in Germany' this dates it to the 1890's. A wonderful addition to anyone's collection.

It bears a small age related chip on the base, clearly shown in the pictures.

This was very kindly donated to us by a very generous elderly couple who sadly were having to downsize.
