The butter knife itself was created in 1637. it was created by Cardinal Richelieu. He created them because he did not like how people were using pointed knives to pick their teeth. So he created a knife with a dulled edge to stop this. When King Louis XIV banned pointed knives at the table (to stop violence) he brought in Cardinal Richelieu's butter knife.
There was originally 6 knives in the set. However, 1 is missing as is the box they they are from.
They are stained and rusted due to time and use. The handles have discolouration to the due to time and use.
