Vintage STG 743 New Zealand Hallmarked Paua Abalone Shell Brooch 8.9g - Ataahua?

This item was donated in good, used condition.

There are multiple hallmarks on the badge. The first is a "STG" with a small bee above it - possibly Ataahua? Then there's an "S"-like shape with "N Z" in it. Lastly there is a "743". We found several other items in this style with these hallmarks, but were unable to find what they actually signify, other than the NZ meaning New Zealand. Some of them are listed as sterling silver, but we can't be 100% sure about this piece.
